A new gas line had to be laid in a residential area in the Swiss city Widnau. The contractor Tobler Tiefbau of Marbach nearby St. Gallen decided to use his directional rod pusher TERRA-JACK 125. This rod pusher produces directional bores with pushing forces of up to 125 kN (12.5 tons, 27’500 lbs). After the pilot bore is finished, the bore channel is expanded by an expander star and an expander cone. Simultaneously a HDPE pipe is pulled in. This bore was done in a length of 22 m (72 ft), it was finished within 4 working hours. The drill head is located with the locating system. A hydraulic power pack drives the TERRA-JACK 125. After 22 m (73 ft) the press head reaches the arrival pit. The intermedium reaming is done with an expander star and an expander cone with Ø 90 mm (3.5”). The final reaming with ø 110 mm (4.3“) begins. The HDPE pipe ø 90 mm (3.5“) is simultaneously pulled in. The intermedium reaming is finished. The expander star reaches the machine pit. The new gas pipe is connected to the main line in the target pit.
