In the Swiss village Oey most of the electrical power lines are overhead lines. They should be replaced by underground cables.

The contractor decided to lay the cable protection pipes in the fields underground by open trenches. As soon as the layout of the cable lines crossed the roads, Jürg Balmer operated trenchless with his underground piercing tool TERRA-HAMMER T 105 S. For some road crossings he had to lay 3 parallel pipes in different diameters. The protection pipes OD 92 mm (3.6”) were pulled in with the TERRA-HAMMER T 105 S directly. For the protection pipes with OD 132 mm (5.2”) he used an expander Ø170 mm (6.7”).

Picture 1: The TERRA-HAMMER T 105 S reaches the arrival pit right on target. The PE pipe OD 92 mm (3.6”) is pulled in simultaneously. This avoids collapsing of the pilot bore.

Picture 2: The TERRA-HAMMER T 105 S is slid into the expander Ø 170 mm (6.7”).

Picture 3: The new PE pipe OD 132 mm (5.2“) is assembled into the expander. The expander drives the smaller pipe OD 92 mm (3.6”) out of the pilot bore.

Picture 4: The cable clamp tensions the new PE pipe against the expander.

Picture 5: The expander reaches the arrival pit.

Picture 6: For this road crossing one PE pipe OD 132 mm (5.2”) and two PE-pipes OD 92 mm (3.6”) were pulled in.
