Machine Requirements and Reaming Procedure The pipe bundle of 10x HDPE pipes with a maximum diameter of 160 mm (6.5 inch) required a bore channel of 500 mm (20 inch). Therefore the HDD contractor had chosen the TERRA-JET DJ 23, the most powerful HDD machine of its class. The ground consisted of gravel, clay and sand. The deeper the bore, the harder the ground conditions. The TERRA-JET DJ 23 with 11 tonnes (23‘000 lbs) thrust and pullback force and the torque of 3100 Nm (2.300 ft.lbs) drilled a pilot bore and reamed in two steps of ø 360 mm (14 inch) and ø 500 mm (20 inch). Each reaming procedure required one day. The entry and exit angle was 30 %.
