A new water pressure line had to be laid in Zurich, Switzerland. This pipe laying job was done by a TERRA-JET DJ 20. The total length of 180 m (600 ft) was divided into two sections with 120 m (400 ft) and 60 m (200 ft). The new pipe was a HDPE pipe OD 180 mm (7.1”). The TERRA-JET TJ 2808 S is equipped with an automatic drill rod changer with total 90 m (300 ft) drill rods on board. The mixing pump is also integrated in the TERRA-JET. A 2’000 ltr (500 gal) mixing tank is connected to the TERRA-JET. It contains the Bentonit drilling fluid. The control station and the monitor of the locator shows all relevant data. The backreamer Ø 260 mm (10.2“) is assembled in the arrival pit. The HDPE pipe OD 180 mm (7.1”) is connected via an expander chuck. The pilot bore has been finished. The ground consisted of clay, gravel and a few stones. A 3-finger head was used as a drill head. The drill head is disassembled. Then the backreamer is assembled. The new HDPE pipe OD 180 mm (7.1”) has been pulled in. This special pipe has an extra protection shell, so it is perfectly suitable for trenchless pipe laying.
