In the beautiful city Gent in Belgium the contractor had to lay new power cables under the tramway in the center of the city.
Due to narrow space and to the fact, that underground piercing tools (moles) are forbidden, Fabricom decided to use the TERRA-JACK TJA 125 for this jobsite. This directional rod pusher is a successful mixture between underground piercing tool („dry drilling“) and HDD machine.
Pic. 1: The starting pit was quite difficult due to many existing pipes and cables.
Pic. 2: The front and rear wall of the starting pit had to be shored carefully, not to damage existing pipes and cables.
Pic. 3: Directional rod pushing allows high accuracy. The drill head reaches the arrival pit right on target.
Pic. 4: After the pilot bore, the drill head is disassembled and an expander star and an expander cone are assembled. Behind comes the new HDPE pipe.
Pic. 5: The expander tools and the new pipe reach the staring pit. After only 3 working hours the jobsite with a total length of 10 m (33 ft) has been finished.
Pic. 6: The new pulled-in HDPE pipe OD 50 mm (2“).
